My Anime Fall 2016 Watchlist

Sorry I've been gone for a while guys! I had a busy time at school, but I think I can manage to atleast get a post a week now. I hope someone still visits the page from time to time. Anyways, on to the post! :)

1) ERASED (Boku Dake ga Inai Machi)

Yes, you've probably seen this title a thousand times if you've looked at enough blogs, because ERASED is anime-of-the-season material. If you haven't checked it yet, you're missing out on one of the best this season. Some further proof would be the HorribleSubs and KissAnime website making their headers Erased-themed. (The header image for this post is from the anime btw)

Erased is about a 29 yr old mangaka in a slump, with nothing interesting happening in his life. What he does have is an ability where he involuntarily goes back in time if a death occurs near him; making him prevent these tragedies. He suddenly finds himself pulled back in time to when he is 10 years old to prevent a series of serial kidnapping incidents that would affect his present self.

Well-written mysteries can take over the anime scene in a flash, and Erased couples the interesting storyline with cute 10-year old romance. Seriously. I even think half of the fans are watching this just because of the 'ship.  Anyway, time travel mystery is a pretty common novel genre, but in anime I don't see it often used - and Erased seems to be using it to its full effect. I've read the manga ahead of the anime, and I can guarantee it only gets more interesting from here on :D

2) Hai to Gensou no Grimgar
Describe Grimgar in less than 5 words? Not a SAO clone. It doesn't have an OP main character with tons of b*tches surrounding him. In fact, the only thing this light novel adaptation has in common with SAO is its setting, and that isn't even quite on point.

The anime is set on a land called Grimgar, where swords and magic are the norm. A group of people wake up without their memories and have to survive by forming parties and defeating monsters. Unlike SAO or Log Horizon, the setting isn't a game world run with AI or riddled with NPCs, but a realistic worlds where even goblins, the lowest level creatures, can think for themselves.

What shines about grimgar is its realistic characters; you can feel the emotions from the cast as they go through their new everyday lives, and character development is always, ALWAYS, a huge factor in drawing in viewers. I personally like grimgar, and I recommend you check it out ;)

3 & 4) GATE and Haikyuu!! Season 2

Pretty self-explanatory. GATE is really interesting as we get to see a mix between fantasy and modern warfare - it's like blending in Call of Duty with Skyrim. Plus, Rory gothic loli OP man.

Haikyuu!! on the other hand was also well received and made a successful debut on Volleyball anime, and we follow the Karasuno team as they dream to go International. The script for the games are kind of repetitive, but we get to see a lot of new characters and personalities this second season.

5) Some other notable anime

Unfortunately, among the anime I'm currently watching only these 2 stand out. I'll get to the other series in a flash, but here are some others I still haven't dropped :)))

a. HaruChika
> Music Club, Mystery, Drama
> Reminds me of Hyouka, where the lead girl doesn't do sht and the lead boy solves every problem
>Unusual love triangle. You'll know what I mean when you get there
>Animated by PA works, worth checking out

b. Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu
>Characters are making a visual novel. Saekano much?
>Kind of Harem-ish, and the lead female has an uncanny resemblance to Oregairu's Yukinon
> It's a visual novel adaptation, maybe it's gonna get better along the road, or atleast that's what I'm expecting since I STILL haven't dropped it :(
>You could check it out if you have some time, but meh it's not really impactful yet

c. Active Raid
> I heard this anime has the same writers as Code Geass. Well, we could guess from the character design and the mechas.
> Mechas! But not as bad ass as Code Geass's mechas :(
> No distinct main character. Kind of episodic, with some hints toward a plot bomb waiting to happen.
>Female character designs are cute :> But other than that everything seems kind of lackluster.

d. Dagashi Kashi
> Slice of Life comedy anime. The theme? SNACKS!
>A lead female with crazy eyes and totally obsessed with japanese snacks/junk food (Dagashi).
>Well, expect what you can expect from a slice of life anime - surprise! It's about everyday life
> KICK ASS OPENING SONG. Can't believe I forgot to mention. My favorite OP this year by far.

e. Musaigen no Phantom World
> Kyo-Ani makes a harem show / K-On with more fanservice??
> Superpowers, School
> I'm just watching it for my weekly dose of cliche harem, but honestly it's kind of a letdown from Kyo-Ani.
>Episode 1 has nice boobs physics, I guess

If I missed anime you think should be on this list (I hear some people say Bubuki Buranki and Dimension W are good) please leave a comment down below and I'll pray to God I have less schoolwork so I can watch it :D Oh, and all images aren't mine. ( Is it too much to hope you could follow me or upvote if you like my content c: ) Anyways have fun this Fall!

  • You can Apply to be a writer for the blog, just send a sample piece of your work
I hope you'll still continue to follow my articles when I have the time to write again :) Farewell, see you in the near future!

To Love Ru Darkness 1st Season Outline:

If you read the first review on To Love Ru and Motto To Love Ru, I said the anime doesn't have a significantly great story and is very heavy on the ecchi (almost to the point it's called light porn), but the comedy is still a worthwhile watch if you have the time. It's the same deal on Darkness but now the plot has a general direction for the whole series and we get to know more about the more popular characters Momo and Yami.

Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace 2 - Episode Impression

Here is the promised Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace Review! First things first, if you CANNOT STAND GORE then this isn't an anime you'd enjoy watching. The image you're seeing above is the very first scene of Ranpo Kitan after the OP song, and it's already clear that this anime isn't for younger audiences (and they say anime is for kids hue).

Now this next picture is an image of our main character: Kobayashi. 2 THINGS:
  • Yes, He's cute
  • Yes, He's a HE
Anyway, Kobayashi is a normal high school boy (damn it japan) who one day finds himself framed for a murder. Despite seeing the such a gruesome scene and being stuck in a hard situation, he remains calm and even thinks:

Without showing any signs of pressure / terror (but actually exuding emotions of enjoyment and enthusiasm) he asks Akechi, the lead detective of the case (and also a High School Boy), to hire him as an assistant and he'll help in finding the killer. Akechi proposes a game; if Kobayashi can find the killer and prove his innocence, he'll hire him; and so the game of laplace begins.

So why watch Ranpo Kitan: Games of Laplace ?
  • Mystery, Murder Cases, Detectives
The mystery genre and crime solving theme has risen in popularity the past few years, and I'm not just referring to anime: CSI, Criminal Minds, Lightman, NCIS and most recently Sherlock were all popular series on TV. The question is, why?

1. It brings out the audience's wannabe Detective / Investigator Side. (Everyone has dreamed to be one / Since Blues Clues you were already a detective)
2. It appeals to a person's Sense of Justice (Yes, everyone wants to watch evil people get punished for their wrongdoings)
3. A Mystery / Case being solved gives the Audience a feeling of satisfaction or even shock if the solution wasn't what he/she expected. (In short, Mystery is Very Entertaining and Satisfying)

And that's why anime with the mystery genre come out to be so good too (Another, Kamisama no Memochou, Hyouka, GoSick, Conan to name some).

A sample of the gore you'll encounter from the first episode!
  • 'Genius Detective' Character
Yes, believe it or not, people are actually hooked to genius individuals --- especially if they've got a weird side to them. Kobayashi is just a high school boy but he's very perceptive, notices small details, has a very calm outlook, and to top it all of the deductive mind of a detective. His weird side is he treats the murder cases like games (he doesn't even bat an eye when he sees corpses) and he enjoys solving these gruesome cases.

To prove my people are hooked to geniuses theory, check if you like some of these ones:
-Shinya Kogami (Psycho Pass)
-Keima Katsuragi (The World God Only Knows)
-L and Light Yagami (Death Note)
-Oreki Houtaro (Hyouka)
-Lelouch (Code Geass)
-Sora and Shiro (No Game No Life)
-Izaya (Durarara)
-Victorique (Gosick)
-Shinichi Kudo (Conan)
And a whole crapload of other characters @_@ there are so much! Anyway, give Ranpo Kitan a watch, I'm sure you'll like it :)
